Solid Rock Church was sent out from Martindale Baptist Church in January 1993. Pastor Mike Schlimgen, his wife Diane, their four children, and about twelve other families were the first members.
The first Sunday worship services gathered in a meeting room at Nations Bank, in downtown San Marcos. There were about 45 in attendance.
SMCISD Superintendent, John Fuller, and SMHS principal Joe Kopek, offered to make the SMHS cafeteria available on Sunday mornings. The church paid rent for the cafeteria and some classrooms for Sunday School, and attendance began to grow.
In addition to the cafeteria, the church met in the high school auditorium, Springtown shopping center, and Dorie Miller Jr. High School over the next several years.
Three acres of land on Hunter Road were purchased in 1999, and construction of the first buildings began in 2000. The worship center and offices opened the week before Thanksgiving in 2000.
