Solid Rock Church History
Excerpts from Diana Finlay (San Marcos Daily Record - February 21,
2003)
Solid Rock Church was started in early 1993 by Mike Schlimgen and other members of Martidale Baptist Church following a
tremendous growth spurt. At the time many residents of nearby San Marcos were commuting to Martindale to attend services in a facility
already limited in space. Mike and the members of Martindale Baptist saw this as a message from God to multiply the resources and plant a
church in San Marcos.
Although Solid Rock Church has Southern Baptist roots, the new church wanted be a place where everyone regardless of faith
backgrounds could come and worship God. The message of God was the same but the method was different. For several years Solid Rock Church
rented the San Marcos High School Cafeteria before moving to the Springtown Shopping Center.
Finally, in November of 2000 Solid Rock Church opened its very own facility with the distguishing "Solid Rock" Capstone in
the front. Solid Rock Church currently serves about 150 families and will celebrate its sixth year in its current building. In 13 years Solid
Rock Church has grown in ministry scope. Solid Rock church is big enough to worship, and small enough to care.
