Where are They?

Acts 10:43

All the prophets testify about him (Jesus) that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sinsthrough his name.

Ephesians 1:7

In him we have redemption through his blood, theforgiveness of sins in accordance with the riches of God's grace ... .

For our encouragement today, let's look at some scriptures that answer the title question in regards to our sins. We see that they are forgiven because of the shed blood of Jesus and through faith in Him. But, doesn't Satan sometimes try to throw our sins back in our faces? He is the accuser of the saints. I know from experience that he has tried to make me doubt my salvation through his accusations. So, let's see what the Bible says about our sins.

"I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressionsfor my own sake, and remembers your sins no more," (Isaiah 43:25).

"Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance ... You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea" (Micah 7:18~19).

"The Lord is compassionate and gracious ... he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us" (Psalm 103:8, 10-12).

They are blotted out, remembered no more, hurled in the depths of the sea, and removed as far as the east is from the west! Praise the Lord! These are precious, reassuring promises for the believer. Christ's death on the cross was so effective, so thorough, so complete, that our holy God could make those promises to all who believe. We can rejoice that

"The blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin" (1 John 1:7).

Does that mean we never sin anymore? No, but we have the assurance that they've been forgiven and are gone.

So now, let's deeply rejoice when we sing words like:

"My sins are gone, I've been set free. My God, my Savior has ransomed me.

And like a flood His mercy reigns; unending love, amazing grace." (lyrics by Chris Tomlin)
